Trying to pick the best Christmas toy for your child can often be difficult. Many times children have an extensive list consisting of some of the most desired, and hottest toys for Christmas. It is no surprise that commercialism plays a huge role in what your child puts on their wish list.

Every child is different with lifestyles that vary. Because of this, what would be considered the best Christmas toy for one child would not necessarily be true for another child. But one thing that does hold true is when children open their presents and they are overcome with an abundance of joy, then you have chosen well.

When shopping for Christmas toys there are numerous ones to choose from. Here are three tips to consider when you are shopping for Christmas toys:

1. You need to be sure to choose one that is age appropriate. When manufacturers list recommended ages for a toy, it is a good guideline to follow. However, as with most things, there are always exceptions.

Children skill levels, social, physical, creative and emotional growth varies. It is because of this that the suggested age recommendation by manufacturers is only a guideline. If you believe a certain toy would be a good choice for your child, despite the fact that your child's age doesn't fit within the recommended age range don't let this stop you from choosing the toy.

2. Just because a toy maybe popular, this doesn't make it the best Christmas toy for your child. Often when a toy is related to a certain hobby, interest or collection of a child, then this is many times the best choice.

Here is an example for choosing a best Christmas toy. Your child has a keen interest in basketball. Then a basketball related gift would probably be a great choice. You might consider giving your child a basketball video game, a huge poster of their favorite basketball player for their room or maybe a backpack with their favorite sports team logo.

3. Be sure when you choose toys that they are well made and durable. Having your child cry their heart out on Christmas because they broke the new toy that Santa left can be heart wrenching. Make sure the toy you choose is durable and can hold up to a child's play.
