The Beatles 2009 Remasters

The Beatles UK studio LPs were originally digitally remastered for CD in the late'80s at that time digital mastering for CD was a relatively new art and since then plenty has been found out about how to do it more effectively but even more important is all of the many technological advances during that time.

The Beatles studio albums were first remastered digitally for compact disc back in the 80s at that time remastering for CD was a relatively new art and since that time a lot has been figured out about how to master more effectively but even more important is the incredible rate in technological advance over the past 20 years.

The many leaps forward in digital mastering and all of the know how learned of how to most effectively make digital masters have been put to good use with the Beatles remasters of 2009. On September 9, 2009 The Beatles released both The Beatles Remastered Stereo Box Set and The Beatles in Mono. And both box sets sound absolutely fantastic. If you've yet to hear 'em, I recommend you get your hands on The Beatles remasters as soon as you can.

Which kind of Beatles remastered should you buy? Well for myself the answer was easy: "both of them" but if you have to choose just one you'll probably go with the stereo box set since it includes all- of their studio albums and most listeners do like the stereo mixes more than the mono mixes.

The mono set is more for hardcore Beatles fans who want to hear all of the differences between the mono and stereo mixes (and with some songs they are quite different) and for fans who want to listen to The Beatles how they originally heard them (this obviously applies to the original fans who were there for The Beatles in person in the 60s.)

On December 8th there will be a 3rd choice: The Beatles USB Flash Drive. This USB flash drive includes the Beatles entire stereo remastered box set in a little stick that fits in the palm of my hand. Isn't that cool? And it contains all of their albums in 2 ways; better than CD quality 24bit FLAC and 320kbps mp3s.

It's the "better than CD quality" thing is what will bring in a good amount of audiophiles but for most people it's the mp3s that'll be most interesting.
